Returning to Subic Bay on 7 August, the warship spent the subsequent 10 weeks operating domestically with Constellation. There, she joined Kitty Hawk and put to sea for seven weeks of operations in the East China Sea. Following a short upkeep interval, she steamed to "Yankee Station" on 10 April and began escort duty for Kitty Hawk. On 10 November, the Kitty Hawk group steamed south for operations within the South China Sea.
